Lots of Lakes

We left Cleveland today and headed East. A little detour from the highway brought us to a nice little road that traveled along Lake Erie. So big and more ocean like than the sound. Of course, it was rainy, which helped to give it surf.

After some off and on rain and more driving we arrived in Erie, PA. It was not eerie. There is a charming island. It is a state park. We drove around it, saw woods, lake, “beaches”. Near the entrance was an amusement park I got to see. (It was raining, so it eliminated any real desire to stop.) There was also an environmental center that we might not have normally stopped at, but we kind of took a wrong turn. Since we were there we thought why not?

It was actually the highlight of the day. Very cool were three big towers that each had dozens of little wooden scenes that moved. Sort of like whirligigs, but you had to turn a wheel to get them to move. They were very cool and even included an alien ship. (Apparently someone saw something on Lake Erie in the 60’s. We saw nothing of the sort.) But there was also a viewing tower and some bird info and beaver info that was rather nice.

From there we drove through town. No sneezing you might miss something. We then went to look at the Maritime Museum. It was not exciting.

On the road again, we traveled back into the mountains. But these were more near the top of mountains and while the elevation it seems is comparable to the gap, it is different. More like rolling foot hills. I didn’t mind them… as much.

We entered then the finger lake region, wandered some shops, drove by some more really big lakes. It’s nice here, but not my thing.

Tomorrow, I want to see the Corning glass museum, but we will probably then head home. I expect tomorrow night’s post to say we are back home with cats.
